Summer 2006 - Mammoth task

In July 2006 my next door neighbour Matt, and me, Andy were given an allotment in Tyldesley. When i first saw it my jaw dropped. What lay before us was an overgrown mass of nettles and weeds, mixed with rubbish left behind by other allotmet holders. We certainly had our work cut out here.

We were quick to make a start, and helped by Matt's wife and kids, after 3 ½ hours attacking it with machetes, we had half of it clear. Both of us were covered in nettle stings and horsefly bites - must not wear shorts next time! The next few nights were spent burning all the rubbish and cuttings.
